Course DescriptionThese two half day courses are designed for teachers, NQTs/RQTs and teaching assistants who are new to or wish to refresh their knowledge of teaching, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion. This course includes guidance on the subject knowledge required to teach the new programmes of study included in the 2014 National Curriculum.
The session will focus on the development and relationship between fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion. There will be an opportunity to consider models of fractions including commutativity.
It is essential that colleagues attend both sessions.
OutcomesParticipants will:
• be supported to develop consistently good and outstanding teaching through enhanced subject knowledge of fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion at KS2;
• be aware of common misconceptions frequently held by children in these aspects of mathematics and the implications for teaching;
• be aware of resources, models and images available to develop children’s understanding in these concepts;
• be provided with accompanying notes and teaching materials to lead a staff development session.
