This conference is aimed at curriculum leaders who have responsibility for improving the quality of teaching and learning in phonics and/or spelling, and also teachers and teaching assistants with limited or no phonics subject knowledge or who are unsure how to teach phonics or spelling.
The conference will be split into two sessions. The morning session (09:00 – 12:00) will cover the ‘Programme for Phonics into Early Spelling’ and the afternoon session (13:00 – 16:00) will cover the ‘Year 2-6 Spelling Programme’.
By attending this course delegates will be supported to develop consistently good and outstanding teaching of phonics and spelling, they will understand how effective assessment facilitates phonic and spelling intervention and understand how spelling can be taught across the curriculum.
It is not necessary to purchase the associated resources in order to benefit from the training provided.
Programme for Phonics into Early Spelling
This programme offers a systematic approach to the teaching of phonics and early spelling skills. It will support children to become independent and confident readers and writers. It provides everything the teacher needs, step by step, in order to teach phonics and early spelling.
Year 2-6 Spelling Programme
The Year 2–6 Spelling Programme is a unique spelling programme for schools, fully aligned to the National Curriculum 2014. It does not do the teaching for the teacher but equips the teacher to teach well. For each spelling objective, extensive word banks mean that the teacher does not have to worry about ‘exceptions’. Research into the reasoning/stories behind the eccentricities and oddities of the English language demystifies and brings the English spelling system to life. Teaching and learning hints and tips are provided throughout. A clear spelling progression helps teachers understand and build on children’s prior learning.
The cost of the event is £100 per delegate, per session.
Cost for those attending the full day programme is £160
