HMI Middle Leadership Conference

Session Content

A one day conference for primary, secondary and special school middle leaders led by HMI.

The aim of this conference is to improve the quality of middle leadership in the South West in order to improve the quality of teaching. The conference will:

  • set out the regional context, noting the key challenges of improving the achievement of looked after children, pupils eligible for the pupil premium and more able pupils;
  • draw on Ofsted evidence about the importance of middle leadership in school improvement;
  • examine a range of evidence to enable middle leaders to develop their evaluation of the quality of teaching in relation to underperforming groups;
  • provide system leaders with materials and approaches to support middle leadership more widely across each local authority area.

Outcomes

Delegates will:

  • be more aware of improving the achievement of looked after children, pupils eligible for the pupil premium and more able pupils;
  • be more aware of the importance of middle leadership in school improvement from Ofsted evidence;
  • be more aware of developing their evaluation of the quality of teaching in relation to underperforming groups;
  • will draw upon materials and approaches provided to support middle leadership.
