Better Mathematics HMI Conference

New maths conferences for teachers 600

On Tuesday 15 July over 100 head teachers, subject leaders and governors from schools in and around North Somerset attended the Learning Exchange organised ‘Better Mathematics HMI Conference’.

The conference was delivered by Ofsted’s National Lead for Mathematics, Jane Jones. Jane delivered sessions looking at national findings, improvement planning, improving teaching, lesson observations and more. Jane’s vast knowledge of the subject area ensured there were lots of best practice, ideas and tips for delegates to take away and use in their schools.

Delegates really valued Jane’s knowledge and the opportunity to discuss mathematics provision with colleagues. The comments below are typical of the feedback received:

‘As a governor I feel much more confident in my role as Mathematics Link to have further conversations and ask challenging questions.’

‘Thank you, it was really informative, useful and interesting. There was a good mix of talk, example and discussion.’

‘The monitoring workshop was particularly useful to support our school. Great food for thought and ideas to develop mathematics in school.’

‘I found the conference very useful, particularly the focus on problem solving and the discussions about opening up problems to deepen learning.’

The Learning Exchange would like to say a big thank you to Jane for delivering such an inspiring conference.
